Israeli soldier’s T-shirt: “Every Arab mother will cry”

A friend on Facebook, Wa’ed Ghantous, from Haifa, just published this post and I’m sharing it on my blog.

Her sister took this photo today, November 28th, 2016, of a T-shirt wore by an Israeli, most probably a soldier, on the train between Jaffa to Tel Aviv. The T-shirt reads (in Hebrew):

“When earthquake happens and the Indians hit, every Arab mother will cry.”

Worth noting, the term “Indians” is a common name to refer to the Golani Brigade, which is an elite worrier army unit in the Israeli military, that participated in all Israeli wars.

The use the “Indians” in this context, to indicate a thirst for murder is also very disturbing, outrageous and offensive to the Native Americans.

The Israeli Military is grateful to the NYTimes

It is really hard to ignore New York Times’ headline for the story on the disturbing video of the execution of the young Palestinian Abed al-Fatah al-Sharif, (21). Al-Sharif was executed along with Ramzi Kasrawi, (21), in Hebron on Thursday, March 24th.

I know it’s NYT after all, and pointing it out, like we did in hundreds of other cases, might not change anything, but still one can not and should not skip such outrageous journalistic practices.

The NYT chose this headline “Israel Soldier Detained in Shooting of Palestinian” to cover a crime that was filmed (otherwise would go unnoticed), showing two disturbing scenes, both are equally severe (and painful): An Israeli soldier executes a motionless and injured young Palestinian man in Hebron, by a bullet in the head from point zero, the other soldiers carry on as if nothing happened, and second, Israeli medics and soldiers, ignore the injured Palestinian (before he was shot the second time), and leave him lying on the ground like he was a piece of trash. 

 

The problem though is not only with the headline, the 900 words and 18 Paragraphs article, gave the major weight for the military propaganda.

The crime of attacking journalists by Israel is not a new practice, during the war on Gaza in 2008-2009 and in November 2012, several attacks and deaths of journalists were documented.

During Israel’s current war on Gaza, the atrocity of assaults on journalists has gone beyond. Since the beginning of the assault, on July 7th, Palestinian journalists and media institutions were massively targeted by Israeli shelling, 8 journalists* were killed and more than a dozen injured, over 15 media headquarters, media vehicles and houses of Journalists were shelled. If that is not a deliberate attack on media, then what is?

UPDATE: when this post was originally published the number of journalists who has been killed by Israeli aggression was 8. This post is now updated with names of another six Palestinian journalists and one foreign journalist who have been killed after publishing the original post. Also, by the end of August, over 45 media headquarters, media vehicles and houses of Journalists were shelled.

New refusers to the military service imposed on the Palestinian Druze

Orwa Saif, a Palestinian Druze from the village of Yanuh, showed up on Sunday, June 15th at the Israeli military enlistment office to declare his refusal to serve in the Israeli military and his opposition to the compulsory service imposed on the Palestinian Druze (who are citizens of Israel). 

مخطّط التجنيد: من هو الشباب المُستَهدَف؟ وهل هو مُحَصَّن؟

كل الاحترام للشباب والصبايا في جامعة القدس وفي كل مكان فيه نشاطات ضد التجنيد، سواء فنية/سياسية/ثقافية.

كل الاحترام لكل من نظم وبادر وشارك في أي فعل إحتجاج، ولكل فنان/ة أبدع فكرة أو ملصق ضد التجنيد، ولكل من هتف وواجه وتم اعتقاله أو التحقيق معه، وحتى لكل من كتب نصوصا على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي وساهم في خلق الأجواء المناهضة للتجنيد.

ورغم الاقتناع الشديد بأن النشاطات الاحتجاجية هامة وضرورية، لكن لا بدّ أن نسأل إن كانت كافية، وإن كانت فعلًا تساهم في إقناع الشباب المستهدفين برفض التجنيد؟

سأعطي ثلاثة أمثلة: في إحدى المدارس، دعمت بعض المعلمات فكرة التجنيد. وفي قرية في الشمال، جلس صديق في مقهى لاستطلاع آراء الشباب حول مسألة التجنيد، وخرج مصدومًا مما سمع، وفي قرية أخرى، حدثتني صديقة بأن نداف يلقى قبولا في البيوت وأن عددا من شباب قريتها تجندوا فعلا أو ينوون التجنّد.

هل نعلم في هذا اللحظة مع من يجلس العميل نداف وأمثاله، وفي اي بيت يلقون الترحاب والآذان الصاغية؟ ربما سنقول بأن من ينجح عملاء التجنيد في اختراقهم هم قلة قليلة (وهذا صحيح، فوفق المعلومات المعلنة عددهم لا يتجاوز العشرات سنويا ما يعني بأن نسبة التجنّد بين الفلسطينيين المسيحيين هي الأدنى في البلاد)، لكن هل نحن متأكدون من أن الوضع سيبقى كذلك؟ إذا كنا نعرف عن اجتماع واحد أو اثنين لعملاء التجنيد مع شباب فلسطينيين فاننا حتما لا نعرف عن أضعافه، لا تحدث كل الاجتماعات علنًا، ولا نعرف عن حيثيات وأبعاد مخطط التجنيد وتفاصيله، حتى تصريحات الجيش ومروّجي المخطّط لا تدلي بمعلومات كافية لنعرف ما الذي يخططون له وينفذونه من وراء الكواليس. ولهذا نتفاجأ في كل مرة بضربة جديدة، تدخلنا في دوّامة الرد والتخبّط. 

عصيان مدني! جيش الاحتلال ينوي إرسال أوامر تجنيد للمسيحيين الفلسطينيين

أوردت إذاعة الجيش الإسرائيلي نبأ حول نية جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي إرسال إخطارات تجنيد لجميع الشباب المسيحيين الفلسطينيين مواطني الدولة، على غرار اخطارات التجنيد التي يرسلها الجيش للشباب اليهود. ذلك على ان يبقى التجنيد للمسيحيين في هذه المرحلة طوعيًا. وقد أورد الخبر تعقيبا من “الأب” العميل وكاهن التجنيد، جبرائيل نداف، والذي يتعاون منذ فترة مع المؤسسة الامنية الاسرائيلية لحث الشباب المسيحيين على الانخراط في صفوف الجيش الإسرائيلي. وقال نداف أنه “يبارك هذه الخطوة الهامة والتاريخية، يثبت من خلالها الجيش أن الطائفة المسيحية هي جزءًا من المجتمع الإسرائيلي، ويعمل على دمج أبنائها في المجتمع كمواطنين متساويي الحقوق والواجبات”.  

إذا صحّ هذا الخبر، وهو على الأغلب صحيح لأنه جاء من إذاعة الجيش نفسه، يعني هذا أن الجيش والمؤسسة الأمنية والسياسية وعملاءها وصلوا إلى قناعة بأن هذه الخطوة مجدية ومفيدة، وأن الأرض أصبحت خصبة لذلك. إن لم يصح الخبر، فعلينا أن نسأل لماذا ينشر الخبر؟ ربما ل “جس النبض” واستشفاف ردة الفعل، أو استدراجنا إلى معركة أخرى بعيدا عن المعركة الأساسية.

علينا أن نتذكر أنه منذ الكشف عن مؤتمر التجنيد الأول في نتسيرت عيليت، استمر المخطط في التقدم رغم المواقف السياسية والضجة الإعلامية المناهضة له. ورغم أننا لا نعرف مدى نجاح المخطط في استقطاب شباب من حيث العدد، فالمعلومات الوحيدة المتوفرة والتي لا يمكننا التاكد من صحتها  أن عدد الشباب المسيحي الذي يخدم في الجيش هو حوالي ١٤٠،  لكننا نعرف ونسمع عن اجتماعات كثيرة ولقاءات يقوم بها مروجو الخدمة العسكرية في قرانا ومدننا، تتم تحت أنفنا. وبينما انشغلنا نحن في التصريحات الإعلامية والعلاقات العامة، وغرق البعض في الظهور الإعلامي، او في البحث عن المكسب الضيق في اي خطوة تحارب المخطط، كانت هناك أذرع عدة للسلطات تنفذ مخطط مدروس تقف وراءه مؤسسة كاملة وتسخر له طاقات وقدرات وآليات مختلفة.

من ناحية أخرى قامت في الفترة الأخيرة مبادرات مباركة جدا وانشطة فنية وسياسية جابت البلاد وساهمت في الحشد والتثقيف ومخاطبة الشباب، بادرت لها احزاب سياسية، حركات شبابية وأطر أهلية، ساهمت الى حد ما في الحفاظ على جو عام رافض للخدمة، وهو أمر هام جدا. ويجب أن يستمر حتى نزع الشرعية المجتمعية كليا عن المخطط وعن عرابه جبرائيل نداف كما كان يحدث مع العملاء في زمن ليس ببعيد.  

Israeli-Ukrainian soldier admits on TV she killed Palestinian Children

Elena Zakusilo, an Ukrainian young women, decided at her young age to leave Ukraine and go to serve in the Israeli military. On November 4th, she participated in Ukrainian TV game show, “Lie detector” The Ukrainian version of “The moment of truth”. Contestants (connected to a truth detector) answer a series of personal and embarrassing questions to receive cash prizes. During the show she reveals horrible information on her military service.
