يتحضر المئات من فلسطينيين ال 48 لحضور عرضكم المرتقب في عمان، وانا واحدة منهم، حصلنا على البطاقات وحجزنا الفندق ونتحدث بانفعال عن الحفلة، فعمان القريبة منا، والمسموح لنا دخولها، وكذا القاهرة، باتتا نافذتنا الوحيدة للتواصل مع حيزنا العربي، ثقافتنا وحضارتنا، التي عزلنا عنها من قبل “اسرائيل” ومن قبل الانظمة العربية.
تفاجأنا بالامس، باعلانكم عن نيتكم افتتاح عرض فرقة “ريد تشيلي بيبرز” الأمريكية في بيروت في السادس من ايلول، وتسائلنا كيف لكم أن تتجاهلوا الحملة الكبيرة التي يعمل عليها فلسطينون في جميع انحاء العالم ومناصرين لقضيتهم، لحث فرقة “ريد تشيلي بيبرز” على الغاء عرضها في تل ابيب في العاشر من ايلول، وكذلك الحملة الفلسطينية واللبنانية لحث اللبنانيين على مقاطعة حفل الفرقة في بيروت في حال لم تلغي عرضها في تل ابيب.
تأتي هذه النداءات بناء على جهود الحملة الوطنية الفلسطينية للمقاطعة الثقافية والاكاديمية لإسرائيل، والتي تهدف إلى عزل إسرائيل دوليا الى ان تنصاع لحقوق الشعب الفلسطيني. لقد انطلقت هذه الحملة عام 2004 وحققت عدة انجازات على مستوى المقاطعة الثقافية، منها الغاء عروض لفنانين دوليين في إسرائيل والغاء عروض لفرق إسرائيلية في العالم، وعلى المستوى الاكاديمي قامت عدة جامعات بالغاء علاقتها الاكاديمية مع الجامعات الاسرائيلية. بالنسبة لنا المقاطعة هي احدى اشكال المقاومة لشعب لم يكف عن المقاومة.
ونحن اذ نبذل جهدا كبيرا مع فرق اجنبية لاقناعها بأن المقاطعة وسلية ناجعة لدعم النضال الفلسطيني من اجل التحرر والعودة وتقرير المصير وبالتالي مساندتنا لعزل إسرائيل دوليا حتى تنصاع للقوانين والاعراف الدولية ولاحترام الحقوق الفلسطينية، ندرك بأن مع اشقائنا العرب لا نحتاج إلى نفس الجهد لأن القضية الفلسطينية حاضرة في وجدان الشعوب العربية.
ندرك بأن المشاركة مع فرقة مثل رد تشيلي، ربما تشكل بالنسبة لكم رافعة لشهرتكم واسمكم، أو محطة هامة في مسيرة فرقتكم التي نحبها ونردد اغانيها دائما، لكننا نعرف أيضا أن هناك ثمن يدفعه كل مؤمن بالحرية والكرامة. المعادلة ليست بين عرض موسيقي وعدمه، المعادلة بين ما يمكن أن تقدمه “مشروع ليلى” للحملة الفلسطينية لمقاطعة إسرائيل، وبين الشرعية التي يمكن أن تمنحها مشاركتكم مع فرقة تشيلي بيبرز في بيروت لعرضها في تل ابيب ضاربة بعرض الحائط كل النداءات الموجهة اليها لإلغائه. المعادلة هي بين أن تتجاهلوا لأن الأمر لا يعنيكم، وبين أن تتخذوا موقفاً يعبر بصدق عن أغانيكم
.يمكنكم أن تساهموا في الضغط على الفرقة، انسحابكم سيساهم بلا شك، ربما لن يؤدي إلى الهدف المرجو ( وهو الغاء الحفل في تل ابيب)، لكنه سيعطي شحنة أمل وطاقة لحملتنا، وسيعني الكثير لنا ولكل اصحاب الضمائر الحية.
سيكون الغد حتما يوما أفضل، إذا رفضتم المشاركة!

i have news that they are NOT coming to Mashrou Lila’s concert in Amman by the concert management. I am not 100% sure it is true but yet they said so.
In the end we support your cause here, and i am willing to boycott if it comes to that even though i bought my tickets already.

what do you mean Mustafa? the problem is not with Mashrou Leila coming to Amman, the problem is with Mashrou Leila opening the Red Hot Chili Peppers show in Beirut.

In some people’s mind, Mashrou Leila coming to Amman is a problem. A band that opens for an international act which also plays in Israel should, in some people’s mind, be boycotted in any Arab country. Similar to the Cirque de Soleil recently: They played in Israel and in Amman, and some people in Jordan called for boycotting them in Amman. Didn’t work, though – pretty much sold out five days in a row.

Dear Abir, I came upon your post this morning. Although I completely support the reasons that drove you to write it, as a Lebanese, I found it very upsetting and even offensive.
I understood from your post that you expect solidarity from the Lebanese with Palestinians outside of Lebanon; perhaps you should take a look at the condition of Palestinians inside of Lebanon.
I understand that the idea of Arab solidarity is key for Palestinians both inside and outside of Israel. It is very important for many Arabs as well. However, I do not understand why you automatically consider Lebanon an ally in your cause, when the Lebanese government treats the Palestinians on its own land (already third and fourth generation) in a symbolically similar way as Israel does the Palestinians inside and outside the Occupied Territories. There might not be physical borders or checkpoints in Lebanon, but these borders and checkpoints still exist symbolically when one, as a Palestinian, does not have many of the basic human rights that you are calling for in your post; when they are barred from employment in various fields because of their “nationality”, for instance. They have no right to own property, to have social security, they have no access to medical care or surgery in Lebanese hospitals, they cannot be employed or have access to any public sector. They are in a state of apartheid!
The Lebanese government does not provide 3rd and even 4th generation Palestinians with Lebanese passports or civil rights because of “the fear of political/ sectarian strife”, a ridiculous excuse. You should think about boycotting Lebanon. It boycotts you in return, anyway.
Maintaining this position of Palestinians in Lebanon is symbolic of how the government exploits this cause to justify its own corruption (there is no electricity; the country had to be destroyed physically and economically in 2006, because “what is the most important for everyone is to liberate the land of Palestine”). Of course, no politician really cares about liberating Palestine; putting the country in a state of emergency would only reinforce the positions of power of certain groups to remain in a (n illegal) position of power. For instance, my parents, who live in the South, do not have electricity at least twelve hours a day because of this. Can they sacrifice any more? They have no access to basic services because of the state of emergency that the country is living in. Emergency is a way to control citizens and to prevent any rebellion against the corruption and the lack of basic human living conditions.
I feel that your post is directing attention away from the harshness of daily lives of people in Lebanon, and creating a state of emergency, in the manner of the Lebanese politicians. The presence or absence of fifteen minutes of Mashrou3 Leila in a Chilli Peppers concert will not change a lot in the situation. Why not boycott Red Hot Chilli Peppers? Why not call for the Lebanese to boycott them? Why not call Lebanese to boycott themselves? Why not call Chilli Peppers to Boycott Lebanon because of the state of apartheid that exists in it?
If you expect brotherhood from Lebanese, and for this reason you are asking them to boycott, then in this canse you are ignoring the living conditions of the Lebanese and asking them to sacrifice everything for you. Brotherhood, if it must exist, should be a two-way exchanve.
I am sure that you, as a Palestinian carrying the Israeli passport, have never visited Lebanon. You might say this is a loss. If so, then giving up the Israeli passport would be another way to “boycott” this country. I understand that even 48 Palestinians belong to a state that discriminates horribly against them. But Lebanese and especially Lebanese women are discriminated against in their own country, in similarly horrific ways. Rape, in a sense, is legal. Women who are not Lebanese (and also men) live in horrific conditions. They are raped, murdered, mistreated, abused, and the state refuses to protect them. There are internal Lebanese debates that are just as valuable as your cause and do not exclude it. Please do not exclude them.
I feel that you are asking me as a Lebanese, to sacrifice the little that I have in a country in which everyone already feels suffocated.
Furthermore, the Lebanese nationality is withheld from Palestinians in Lebanon because these Palestinians (who are really Lebanese) hold the “right of return”. Whereas I am not undermining this right, what are the chances of this happening in this generation, and why should this generation also like the preceding ones, put its life and civil rights on hold? Don’t they also deserve a good life, and the same rights that you demand for the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories? Leaving Palestinians in Lebanon in this state is only an excuse to maintain the in-between state of people who should have otherwise been citizens. As a 48- Palestinian, you are luckier than Palestinians who live in Lebanon. You carry a nationality, you carry more rights, and you carry a passport (even though it is of a country that forced it on you and that discriminates against you) that gives you international mobility.
I feel that this post is self-centered, it focuses on Israeli internal debates, and is inconsiderate of the conditions of people in the nations of which you demand brotherhood. The assumption of Arab solidarity, in this case, is doing harm to people who live in the country that you unquestionably demand solidarity of. It is demanding of them to lose many facets of cultural life.
In the boycott call in your post, the party who loses most is mashrou3 Leila. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers will not be so affected by their withdrawal, let alone by cancelling one or two concerts in the region. But it is a call to boycott Mashrou3 Leila if they do not do so themselves (otherwise understood as bullying) ! The Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert in Beirut might still take place, and Mashrou3 Leila will not really affect that very much. Many Lebanese people would come to this concert. This is a call therefore, that isolates Mashrou3 Leila, who are already isolated because of the passports that they carry and because of the fact that they are citizens of a country that feels like an intellectual, artistic, and economic prison. Readers of your post are starting to boycott Mashrou3 Leila, and I strongly believe that they do not deserve that. More It makes more sense to boycott other things, especially that boycotting Mashrou3 Leila will not really help your cause to the extent that it will harm them.
Finally: a note on your Arabic: your style carries in it numerous examples of formulaic phrases (“Daraba bi 3ard el 7a2it, nidal sha3b lam yakoff 3an al-nidal, as7ab al-dama2ir al-7ayya). These formulas are vessels for equally formulaic thought, discourse that has not been broken down or analyzed but that is reproduced without the application of criticism. It is the language of the megaphones, and it is dangerous.
I fully support your cause. I believe that Lebanese in Lebanon fully support your cause. I am sure that Mashrou3 Leila support your cause. But you must think about supporting theirs. Please don’t ask them to sacrifice their careers for it. The Arab World is not a single entity, and we must realize that.

هذا الرد أثار بعض الأمور التي أراها تتسبب كثيرا في التفتيت والتقسيم بدلا من التقريب والتكامل.
المقاطعة نفسها تختلف باختلاف وضع المقاطع وقدرته ومعلوماته. حاولت يوما أن أقارن بين ناجي التميمي الذي رضي بالحصول على عقوبة مخففة مقابل تسجبل اعتراف أمام محاكم الاحتلال، وبين باسم التميمي الذي رفض الاعتراف بالمحكمة. لكن اتضح لي أن لكل منهما سبب واضح، ولكل منهما طريقة لمواصلة النضال. ولذلك أفضل تقدير المقاطع دون تجريم غير المقاطع وتخوينه، بل أفضل الاستمرار في محاولة إقناعه بفوائد المقاطعة على المدى القريب والبعيد.
في الثورات العربية كان هناك أشخاص في المنتصف لم يميلوا مع الثورة لأن لها ضحايا بين قتيل وسجين ومصاب ومعذب، كما أنهم كانوا يرغبون في نجاحها لأن الاستبداد له كذلك ضحاياه. جبنهم ليس دليلا على خيانة، بل هو في الغالب دليل على يأس وهم لا يريدون أن يخسروا دون مقابل ولا يرغبون أن تضيع دماؤهم هدرا. لذلك فتخوين هؤلاء يدفع بعضهم بالاتجاه الآخر، بل ربما يدفعهم إلى محاربة كل الثائرين ضد الاستبداد.
كنت معجبا بكلمات تميم البرغوثي: واللي حيقعد فـي بيته بعدها خاين، اللى حيقعد كأنه سلم التانيين للأمن بإيديه، وقال له هم ساكنين فين. لكن الثورات التي تلت ثورة مصر والمظاهرات بعد خلع الرئيس وضحت أسبابا كثيرة للبقاء في البيوت غير الخيانة، والقاعدون في البيوت ليسوا كمن دل قوات القمع على المناضلين، والمشاركون الدائمون في المظاهرات المصرية ضد الرئيس المخلوع وضد أعوانه من العسكر فئة قليلة هي أشبه الفئات بالشهداء الذين ضحوا بأنفسهم من أجل أن يعيش غيرهم أحرارا. فهل كل البقية خونة؟
نفس الأمر يمكن تطبيقه على الوقفات التضامنية مع الأسرى المضربين عن الطعام. هل سنقاطع أنفسنا لأننا لم نرق إلى مستوى تضحياتهم أم نحاول رفع مستوى المشاركة وتنويع أساليبها ودعوة كل الناس لبذل الجهود لنصرة أبطالنا؟
هذا كله بالطبع عن المقاطعة من الدرجة الأولى، فكيف نصل إلى المقاطعة من الدرجة الثانية ومعظم الشعوب العربية مغيبة وتجهل ما يحدث في فلسطين؟ هل سنقاطع حكومات مصر والأردن وقطر لعلاقاتها مع العدو المحتل؟ وهل سنقاطع من لا يقاطعها؟… إلى نهاية السلسلة.
ولذلك مرة أخرى أقول أنني أرى أن تقدير المقاطعين هو الحل الأفضل. أليس من الأفضل أن نشجع كل المنتجات والفنون الوطنية والعربية الخالصة، ثم المرتبطة بعلاقات خارجية لا تمت للاحتلال بصلة، ثم تلك الأجنبية التي تقاطع الاحتلال علنا، وهكذا؟ بل ربما علينا أن نضع رمزا لكل شركة وكل فرقة ندعمها، دون تخوين للشركات والفرق الأخرى.

ربما أسأت التعبير فكل ما أريد قوله ببساطة هو تحويل الشعار أو العنوان من “قاطعوا من لا يقاطع” إلى “ادعموا من يقاطع”، المقاطع غالبا يعرف أثر قراره عليه ويأخذ قراره بمجرد أن يعرف ارتباط المنتج الذي يقاطعه بالاحتلال الذي يقاومه، لا يطلب شكرا ولا دعما من أحد. رغم ذلك فمساندة المقاطعين لبعضهم تحسن ظروفهم معا، وتغيظ مؤسسات الاحتلال.
وأعتذر يا عبير إن فهم أن الكلام موجه إليك أو إلى مشروع ليلى، لكن يبدو أن هناك من يرى أن انسحاب الفرقة- كما نتمنى جميعا- سيكون خوفا من مقاطعتها هي وخوفا من اتهامها بالبحث عن الشهرة بأي وسيلة ورضوخا للضغط، وليس اقتناعا بضرورة المقاطعة وفوائدها.
وأنا أخشى تشجيع الأوساط العربية اﻹقصائية التي اعتادت أن تدافع عن نفسها بسرد أخطاء الآخرين حتى لو أقروا بها وأعلنوا ندمهم عليها، وهي لذلك لا تعين أحدا على ترك الخطأ والعودة إلى جادة الصواب.
